The Best Bite closes

Goodbye Saturn Burger. Farewell Cuban Panini. Our sandwich world just grew — sob — substantially smaller.
The Best Bite, one of Cashmere’s yummiest restaurants, shut its doors Sunday (Dec. 30) after more than three years of offering its dine-in meals and take-out specialties. Owners David and Teresa Shahbaghlian (in photo) said that both business and personal reasons figured into the equation to close the corner diner.
Over the years, the couple had tweaked menu and hours to find just the right food-and-service combination. The last big meal was their four-hour Sunday brunch, a lavish spread that included the rare Strata, a layered dish of egg custard, croissant dough, Italian sausage, bacon, spinach, mushrooms and … no, must stop here, grief overcomes us.
The good news? The Shahbaghlians will continue to make and sell their sauces, salad dressings, crackers and cookies. The products will eventually be offered online, they said in a Facebook posting, but right now curious customers should leave a phone message at the restaurant. Unredeemed gift certificates can also be used to purchase these products.
Details: The Best Bite, 201 S. Division St., Cashmere. 782-2222. Online at thebestbite.net.
